Psychiatric Medication Management in Hayward, California

Medication is one of the most powerful tools in psychiatric care — when it is prescribed thoughtfully, monitored carefully, and explained honestly. Too many patients arrive at our office having been bounced through brief medication checks, switched between drugs without a clear reason, or kept on regimens that no one has reviewed in years. Medication management at Exxceed Wellness is built differently.

Conditions we manage with medication

  • Depression — including treatment-resistant depression when first-line antidepressants have not produced enough relief.
  • Anxiety disordersgeneralized anxiety, panic, social anxiety, and anxiety co-occurring with other conditions.
  • Adult ADHD — including stimulant and non-stimulant options, after a careful clinical evaluation.
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — SSRIs at OCD-specific dosing, with referral to Deep TMS when appropriate.
  • Sleep, mood, and emotional regulation issues that often co-occur with primary diagnoses.

Our prescribing philosophy

Diagnosis comes first

The right medication depends on the right diagnosis. We don’t prescribe based on a symptom list — we prescribe based on a careful clinical interview that distinguishes anxiety from ADHD-driven overwhelm, depression from burnout, and bipolar spectrum from unipolar depression. Misdiagnosis is the most common reason a medication “doesn’t work.”

Evidence-based first-line, considered second-line

We start with treatments that have the strongest evidence for your specific diagnosis. When first-line options have not produced enough relief, we move thoughtfully to augmentation strategies, alternative mechanisms, or interventional treatments like Spravato or TMS therapy.

Honest conversation about side effects and risks

You will know what you are taking, why, what to watch for, and what we’ll do if something does not go as expected. We do not minimize risks, and we do not catastrophize them.

Conservative use of controlled substances

For benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other scheduled medications, we follow careful prescribing practices and explain our reasoning out loud. Long-term benzodiazepine reliance is avoided when other treatments can do the job.

What to expect

Initial evaluation (60–90 minutes)

We review history, current symptoms, prior medication trials, sleep, substances, medical history, family history, and what specifically you want to feel different. By the end of the visit you have a working diagnosis, a treatment plan, and a clear next step.

Early follow-up (every 2–4 weeks)

While we are building or adjusting a regimen, follow-up visits are frequent. We watch response, side effects, and whether the medication is moving the dial on the things that matter to you.

Maintenance (every 1–3 months)

Once you are stable, follow-up visits space out. We continue to monitor, refill, adjust seasonally if needed, and revisit the question of whether you still need each medication you are on.

Telehealth and in-office

Medication management is well-suited to California-statewide telehealth after the initial evaluation. Patients across California from Sacramento to San Diego can establish care with us and continue care via secure HIPAA-compliant video. In-office visits remain available at our Hayward location whenever you prefer them.

Frequently asked questions

How is medication management at Exxceed Wellness different from a 15-minute med check?

Initial evaluations are 60–90 minutes, follow-ups are 30 minutes, and we don’t run a high-volume mill. You see the same clinician every visit, you can ask questions, and we will not refill a prescription without examining whether it is still the right one for you.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes — please see Fees & Insurance for our current accepted plans, or contact our office to confirm coverage.

Do you prescribe controlled substances by telehealth?

Yes, in compliance with current DEA and California Board of Registered Nursing rules. Initial visits for controlled substances may require an in-person component depending on the medication and current regulatory guidance — we will explain what applies to your specific situation.

Can you take over my medications from another prescriber?

Yes. Bring (or have your prior clinician send) a current medication list and recent visit notes. We will do a complete evaluation before continuing or modifying anything — we don’t simply “renew” without understanding the picture.

What if my medication is not working?

We will look at dose, duration, adherence, interactions, and whether the diagnosis is right. From there we can optimize the current regimen, switch to a different mechanism, augment with adjunct therapy, or evaluate you for Spravato or TMS therapy if appropriate.

Will I need to stay on medication forever?

Not necessarily. Some patients need short-term medication, others benefit from longer-term treatment. We discuss this openly at your evaluation and revisit it as your situation evolves.
