How Medi-Cal covers Spravato

Medi-Cal covers Spravato through your managed care plan’s pharmacy or medical benefit, depending on the plan. Either way:

• Prior authorization is required. Your provider submits documentation of your diagnosis and prior antidepressant trials.
• Treatment starts with an initial coverage period, commonly around four weeks, after which your provider documents your response to determine whether continued treatment is authorized.
• The covered dose is set by your treatment phase, typically 56 mg or 84 mg administered intranasally, twice weekly during induction.
• Your out-of-pocket cost is usually minimal, because Medi-Cal has little or no cost-sharing for covered services.
