Preparing for Your First Spravato Appointment

The first Spravato appointment takes about two hours. Patients self-administer the nasal spray in the clinic under supervision, then remain for approximately 90 minutes of monitoring. Driving afterward is not permitted, so a designated driver or rideshare is required on every treatment day, including the first.

During the visit:

  • The nasal spray is self-administered in the clinic under the supervision of a REMS-certified provider.
  • Blood pressure is checked before dosing and during the monitoring period.
  • Dissociation, dizziness, drowsiness or nausea may occur and typically resolve before discharge.
  • Discharge follows once the provider confirms the patient is medically stable.

To prepare:

  • Arrange a designated driver or rideshare in advance. This is a REMS requirement, not a preference.
  • Plan for a two-hour appointment.
  • Keep the remainder of the day free of work, driving, childcare and other responsibilities.
